7 REASONS ACCREDITATION SHOULD MATTER TO YOU
When you choose to homeschool, you’re faced with many options for companion and partner programs.
But in the world of accreditation and homeschooling programs, all are not alike. It’s important for you to consider a homeschooling partner that has solid accreditation and can give you a customized learning experience. Here’s why.
1
An accredited diploma carries more weight with colleges and universities.
When your child is ready to apply to the college of their dreams, you want them to have a diploma that validates their work, backs up their grades and credits, and puts them on the same level or higher than their peers. Accreditation does all of this. Why? Every college needs validation that students, especially homeschooled students, can handle their vigorous college work. With an accredited diploma, your child’s work is instantly validated, showing their dedication to their studies and giving them the same opportunities as their peers.
2
Accreditation takes away the worry of record keeping and reporting.
How many credits does your high school student need to graduate? What classes are required? How many electives? Is your child’s writing on par with their peers? These questions can drown a homeschooling parent in worries and require tons of research to answer. When you work with an accredited homeschool partner, they do the grade reporting, record keeping, credit tracking, and transcript so you can have peace of mind and enjoy focusing on teaching and educating your child at home.
3
Accreditation protects you and your homeschooling rights.
While some countries support homeschooling, others are more skeptical and have stricter homeschooling laws. Some even require that you find a homeschool partner! When you work with a homeschool partner accredited by the US department of education, you’re safely under their umbrella of protection. To your country, it’s as if your child is in public or private school, except you keep all the benefits of homeschooling- individualized education, more family time, and freedom to choose your child’s curriculum and instill your family values!
4
An accredited transcript allows you to easily transfer back into a traditional school should the need arise.
5
Accreditation means you’re getting what you pay for!
No one wants to purchase a product that doesn’t do what it claims. And, when it comes to your child’s education, the stakes couldn’t be higher. With accreditation, you can be sure that your homeschool partner is backing up what they claim because they’ve chosen to open themselves up to a 3rd party review process in every part of their program, from admissions to finance to grade reporting. And that means you’ll get exactly what you expect, and exactly what you’ve paid for.
6
Accreditation ensures your homeschooling partner is continuously improving.
While you have the option to choose your
homeschool partner, make sure you know their accreditation. Make sure you find a partner that has an accreditation approved by the Department of Education. When your partner has those seals of
approval, you can rest knowing that they are required to evaluate their programs yearly to prove
they are providing exactly what they claim. You can be sure they are listening to the families they work
with to make improvements and be confident in their success rates as they are being monitored closely. When it comes to your children and homeschooling, this kind of insurance is beyond valuable.
7
Accreditation means more opportunities and a brighter future for your child.
Your student deserves every opportunity and an accredited transcript/diploma will open doors for your child that otherwise may remain closed. Have an elite athlete? Accreditation ensures your child can pursue their dreams inside of a gym while maintaining academic requirements they’ll need to transition into NCAA or beyond. Have a young scholar? An accredited diploma will put him on the same footing as his peers when applying to Ivy League schools. Have a child gifted in construction? An accredited diploma says to prospective employers “this candidate got a great education and is ready for the job.” Accreditation gives your child the foundation they need to chase their dreams and gives you the confidence you need to let them.
10 MYTHS ABOUT HOMESCHOOLING
You may have heard of homeschooling before and you’re picture mom’s in jean jumpers with huge families, kids who can’t socialize, and students who graduate unprepared for college. Urban legends, incorrect statistics, and bias can confuse parents and students who are considering or currently homeschooling. Read these 10 Myths About Homeschooling and learn the truth.
MYTH 1 :
My child won’t be able to socialize properly with other children.
This myth couldn’t be farther from the truth. Homeschooled children interact with parents, family members, neighbors, friends and people in the community. They attend live classes, co-ops, sports and college courses and interact with people of all ages. In fact, we know from experience that the socialization children get during homeschooling is healthier, happier and more productive than what occurs in most traditional schools. At HG, we encourage and facilitate interaction through community events, extracurricular classes, and co-ops.
MYTH 2 :
If I homeschool my kids, they won’t get into college.
Nope. Homeschooled children are 10% more likely to get and STAY in a 4 year college and they have higher college GPA’s. Why? Because education that is tailored to the student enables them to gain the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in life after high school.
MYTH 3 :
Very few people homeschool their children.
More than 2.5 million children are homeschooled in the U.S., according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Why? The most common reason is that parents feel they can provide a better education for their child. And no wonder. The US fallen from #1 to #24 in the world for academics in 15 years because of large class sizes, standardized testing, and so much more. Homeschooling puts your child’s needs and goals back at the center of their education.
MYTH 4 :
My child won’t learn as well as he/she would in a traditional school.
Actually, homeschooled children learn better than those in traditional schools. Why? Because their learning style, their interest, their goals are put at the heart of their education through curriculum, schedule, and experiences. Homeschooling means your child’s experience isn’t about what is best for all; it’s about what is best for them. And we know that works! Traditional schools are forced to target the widest possible range of learning abilities and styles which can result in a less-than-effective educational experience for many children. At HG, your child’s education is customized to their unique learning and testing style and matches your specific goals and teaching style as well. This kind of one-on-one attention is what makes homeschooling with HG so effective.
MYTH 5 :

MYTH 6 :
I am not qualified to teach my child.
You may not know it, but you have been your child’s most important teacher all along. Who taught him to walk and talk? To know right from wrong? To be kind? Those lessons are much harder to teach than long division. You may not be a trained teacher, but you know your child best. And with HG, you’re never alone. We do everything we can to support you in your teaching efforts. Whether you want to be highly engaged or hands-off, we adjust our approach to best suit your distinct needs and desires.

That means that homeschooled children have more time to pursue their hobbies and interests and develop their talents. At HG, you and your child are not constrained by a regimented school day.
MYTH 8 :
My child won’t learn the right things.

MYTH 9 :
Homeschool families are alike.
In fact, homeschoolers come from all over the world from a wide-range of political, religious, philosophical and socio-economic groups.
